THE 2013 SEASON MARKS THE 49th YEAR OF THE JUDGE DOWD SOCCER LEAGUE.

The league was formed in 1965 for the purpose of starting our young children out in sports with a good Christian attitude and promote friendly rivalry between our parishes. The mission of the league is to provide players with instruction in the fundamentals and rules of the game of soccer, while stressing the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. The league was named after my father, Judge Robert G. Dowd, Sr., for his lifetime of service and commitment to youth sports.

Team sports can provide important life lessons which can build positive character traits that will help children beyond the playing field throughout their lives. I want to thank all of the volunteer coaches for giving your time and talents as an investment in our youth. To borrow a favorite phrase of the late Msgr. Louis F. Meyer, "No person stands as tall as one who stoops to help a child."

To ensure that the league is a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone, it is the responsibility of every coach, parent and player to follow the league rules, comply with the codes of conduct and set an example of sportsmanship at all times.
